Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) covers up to $500,000 for $0.05 per $1,000 of coverage per month, plus a flat $1 for TSGLI. Maximum coverage costs $26/month, deducted automatically from your pay.

Coverage is elected in $50,000 increments. New members are automatically enrolled at the maximum; you can reduce or decline in writing (think hard before doing so — SGLI is far cheaper than comparable civilian term life for most members).

- TSGLI ($1/month) pays for certain traumatic injuries.
- FSGLI covers spouses (up to $100,000) and children (free) for a separate small premium.
